Con Oscar Álvarez vuelve la seguridad a Honduras y ese es el temor que tienen los que le adversan, porque el va a recuperar los territorios ocupados por las maras, la delincuencia y los carteles de droga. Asimismo, se ha comprobado a través del voto de los hondureños que eso es lo que desean, un país en paz, armonía y en desarrollo. De éste país solo pueden ser desterrados delincuentes que quieren destruir la economía y buscan el caos y derramamiento de sangre para crear líderes ficticios.
Los hondureños tenemos fe en Dios que en el próximo Gobierno todo va a cambiar, empezando por la actitud y el fortalecimiento de los valores perdidos en nuestra sociedad para salir adelante.

A continuación las declaraciones textuales de los hermanos Díaz-Balart en conferencia de prensa en el TSE:
Es un privilegio para mí estar en Honduras y habernos reunido con el Tribunal Electoral. Ha sido una reunión fructífera porque Honduras ya está en elecciones, las elecciones culminarán el 29 de noviembre pero ya está el proceso en marcha y este Tribunal está llevando a cabo el proceso electoral en forma transparente, admirable y que va garantizar el derecho de autodeterminación de este noble pueblo hondureño. Muchos hondureños a través de muchos años se sacrificaron para lograr el derecho de la autodeterminación y la democracia.La democracia hondureña la admiramos y admiramos a su pueblo. El mensaje que nosotros nos llevamos al Congreso y al gobierno de los Estados Unidos, que nos tiene que escuchar, es que este proceso electoral de Honduras tiene que continuar siendo respetado por el mundo y su culminación el 29 de noviembre tiene que ser respetado, el Presidente electo por este pueblo en estas elecciones transparentes, que ya están en marcha, por este admirable Tribunal Supremo Electoral, lo hemos podido comprobar la actitud de patriotismo, sensatez y compromiso de estos magistrados, el resultado de las elecciones y el presidente constitucionalmente y democráticamente electo tiene que ser respetado por la comunidad internacional, tiene que ser admitido ese resultado por la comunidad internacional. Ese es el mensaje que nos vamos a llevar. Consideramos esta visita ya de observación de un proceso listo, transparente que se está llevando a cabo, felicitamos a las autoridades electorales por la forma en que lo están llevando.

A lo largo de mi vida he observado procesos electorales en múltiples electorales algunos de los cuales han logrado salir de largas décadas de dictaduras a través de la forma en que se resuelven los problemas, las disputas, las controversias: Elecciones libres y transparentes. Este Tribunal Supremo Electoral está trabajando diariamente para garantizar las elecciones transparentes y esa será nuestra misión explicarles no solo a nuestros colegas del Congreso, al gobierno y a nuestros amigos a través del largo y ancho de la comunidad internacional: La solución a cualquier controversia que pueda haber habido aquí es propia y una solución es la elección del 29 de noviembre cuando este pueblo se va a manifestar ampliamente, libremente y segura.

Aun en las grandes dictaduras como la de Pinochet en Chile o Franco en España la solución fueron elecciones libres. Las elecciones comenzaron en el 2008, que después haya surgido una controversia eso no significa que no va a continuar la democracia y el proceso electoral, por eso, nuestro mensaje es apoyar estas elecciones. Nosotros somos del partido de minoría en el Congreso (Republicanos) le diría que en nuestro partido hay casi unanimidad, no unanimidad porque eso no existe en ningún lado, pero casi unanimidad respecto a nuestra postura sobre la problemática hondureña. Creo que hay un apoyo bastante importante en el partido mayoría (Demócrata) sobre el tema de Honduras precisamente porque nuestro punto de vista ganaría un voto mayoritario en el Congreso y cuál es nuestro punto de vista: que la salida de la crisis es las elecciones generales y vamos a seguir alzando nuestra voz, reuniéndonos con nuestros colegas y con el gobierno que tenemos discrepancias sobre este tema en este momento. Vamos incrementar a nuestros esfuerzos para que nuestros colegas se unan a nosotros, invitándolos a venir a observar las elecciones y explicarle al mundo que es un proceso admirable que hay que apoyar y que es la evidente solución al dilema que sufre Honduras.

Mario Díaz-Balart: No tiene sentido interrumpir elecciones.

Quiero recalcar lo que decía Lincoln. No hubo inquietud que no se nos contestó. El Tribunal Supremo Electoral está haciendo la tarea que tiene que hacer. Y debemos recordarle al mundo que este proceso no comenzó hace un meses, es un proceso que comenzó en mayo del 2008, después en noviembre del 2008 y las elecciones generales del 29 de noviembre es la culminación de todo el proceso. Debemos reconocer que el Tribunal está cumpliendo su tarea con eficacia y seguiremos revisando el diálogo y tratando de hablar con la comunidad internacional para que vengan a Honduras, que sean testigos de lo que están pasando acá, para que se den cuenta que lo que está pasando acá son unas elecciones que ya día comenzaron y que como decía mi hermano la solución es única: La solución para cualquier conflicto que haya en Honduras están muy claras, son las elecciones que ya llevan más de un año en el proceso y que van a ser culminadas en noviembre. Y nos alegra la apertura del Tribunal para que los observadores puedan venir ya, no deben esperar el 29 de noviembre para preguntar lo que quieran y garantizar que el pueblo hondureño pueda mantener su democracia. La controversia sucedió en junio, ya estaba el proceso, estaban las instituciones, entonces, interrumpir el proceso que se ha mantenido en forma transparente, claramente no tiene ningún sentido porque si la solución no son esas elecciones, previamente convocadas, si esa no es la solución, ¿cuál es la solución? Nosotros creemos que hay consenso también entre el pueblo hondureño que vive con nosotros en los Estados Unidos. Así que seguiremos alzando la voz a favor de la democracia y a la evidente solución a este problema que son las elecciones generales.

Hi, Everyone: If you re-read the emails, you will realize we are not disagreeing-- at least, not yet. That is, other than it is better to put strategic pressure on the Obama Administration than to outright discredit it or to equate it with the Bush Doctrine! (!?) Of course, that is a huge difference. But, then I have to remember there are still folks who would equate G.W. with Gore, right? If the USA did not have such a role in the rest of the world, that equation would be laughable, it isn't. Gabriela: I have to agree with Mark. U.S. foreign policy to Latin America seems to be dictated by right wing ideologues like Otto Reich and John Negroponte (former Honduran ambassador now an advisor to H. Clinton). I’d like to give Obama the benefit of the doubt and assume that he’s just clueless about Latin America and is being taken on a ride by his State department, but recently he accused of hypocrites those who are asking him to stop supporting the coup government in Honduras. Unfortunately, as far as Latin America is concerned (and some people say the Middle East as well), Obama’s foreign policy is virtually indistinguishable from that of Bush. He recently signed an agreement with president Uribe of Colombia to establish five new military bases, the biggest expansion of U.S. military power in the region in a long time, something not even seen in the worst of the Bush years, see for instance http://www.telesurtv.net/noticias/entrev-reportajes/index.php?ckl=346. And, the least that the Obama administration could do is denounce ongoing human rights violations in Honduras. Yesterday for instance, demonstrators were taken to the basement of the Honduran congress and beaten, even a congressman from a leftist party was severely beaten and sent to the hospital. Yet, the Obama administration remains silent. I’m sorry, but the hope that Obama would signify a new era in U.S.-Latin American relations is quickly fading.

I disagree. Has the State Dept not just sent a memo to Senator Lugar basically stating that there will be no further sanctions? Is Mr. Clinton’s lawyer not now lobbying for the dictator and his minions? What is REALLY needed is some REAL reporting by Reuters and their ilk–there are hundreds of people being tortured and disappeared, including right now in the Universidad Pedagogica Nacional. The entire country has turned into a hunting ground of anyone and everyone who has been ticking off the oligarchy since Hurricane Katrina; people as prominent as Rafael Alegria, leader of Via Campesina, and Padre Andre Tamayo , winner of the Goldman Prize, are being harassed and their followers hunted like dogs. PLEASe, if anyone has good contacts in the major media, what we need are international correspondents on the ground documenting the brutal repression. Why is it that the Latin American progressive left is galvaniyed by what is going on, but the rest of the world is pretending it really is not very important? Does Mr. Obama really have four or five other more important things to do? Zelaya has been received across the Hemisphere; the rhetoric of the (extreme) Right is that this could happen to You, and given the actors involved in the coup, it is widely understood that, if it is successful, there is a whole line of countries that will follow. Obama risks becoming irrelevant, after a decent start with Latin America. What would be so hard about some sanctions with teeth? The White House is being won over by State, it seems.

Dear Friends of Democratic and Justice:

As a woman born and raised in Latin America, who also lived under military dictatorships, I am utterly concerned about the situation in Honduras and want a civilian response to a democratic problem. Because of that, to state that Obama is sitting on his hands is not only inaccurate, but non-strategically inflammatory and thus, politically unwise.

Nothing like shooting at our democratically elected president (finally!) when we are in need of his leadership and the one of his team. There is a huge difference between letting the Obama Administration what our opinion is, as rightfully concerned citizens and attacking his role and reputation while he is astoundingly busy in addressing so many politically charged situations in our country and the world. As progressive activists we need to expand and improve our repertoire of moves– being merely adversarial has not been constructive for quite a while. That is a very recurrent and old mistake of the so-called “left”. I propose to explore constructive alternatives and, at least, be original in our mistakes. We are utterly lucky that The Obamas understand this and count on our imagination and commitment!
